The last two weeks have been… not so much fun for any of us in our house and it all started with a little snotty nose.
Yep – Tyler had the sniffles, and a runny nose. It was clear when it started, and the pollen was pretty bad. So bad, that I had a yellow car for a few days! It wasn’t too bad the first day, but the second day – I was feeling pretty awful. So awful, that I sent Tyler to daycare (who was still slightly sniffly, but in general good spirits) came back home and then pretty much slept the day away. Wednesday, I felt that I was among the living, but stuffy, Thursday and Friday – much the same. I, at first thought this was allergies for at least Tyler and myself – but then the sniffles turned snotty – and the snotty was NOT clear. *sigh* Good times.
Turn around and Geoff and my mother ended up getting this as well. Geoff doesn’t do well being sick – which is fine, since he doesn’t get sick very often. He took himself to the dr over the first weekend, got officially diagnosed with a sinus infection after self-disgnosis with the help of Dr. Google, got some drugs and started taking them.
Tyler then developed croup Sunday night, which was very scary. When I went to check on Tyler that night, I just thought he was snoring, but Geoff was persistant. Tyler was up around 1a – we called the after hours nurse line, and it was determined that Tyler had croup. She asked if he had a barking cough – and it was almost as if on cue… he did. She also said that he had strider, so we spent 20 min in the bathroom with the shower on high, hoping that it would make things better and keep us from having to go to the emergency room.
Can I tell you scary this was? It sounded AWFUL, and there was really nothing that I could really do about it. I really called the after hours nurse line to see if we needed to take Tyler to the ER, or if it could wait for a morning appointment with the ped. Thankfully it could and with the shower steam, Tyler’s strider got better, and I got him back asleep around 3:30a. Made an appointment with the ped first thing that morning and he got dosed up with amoxicillin and prednisone.
Poor kid – I felt so bad about him being sick, but I got to give him credit – through everything and I mean everything (because it wasn’t just the croup, but he had a diaper rash, ear infection, continued to be snotty, and was teething during this as well) he was still smiling and a pretty happy kid.
It took, what felt like FOR. EV. ER. for all of us to get better. Poor Geoff – developed an allergy to amoxicillin and had to go BACK to the doctor and get on MORE drugs, especially since his sinus infection hadn’t gone away. This got me paranoid, since Tyler was on the same drug, and I started to watch him like a hawk – looking for anything that could be considered an allergic reaction. Then EVERYTHING was looking like a reaction or a rash, or… or… or…
I took Tyler back to the doctor to follow up and make sure his ear infection went away – he got a clear bill of health and the doctor told me that only 5% of the population is allergic to amoxicillin, and it wasn’t a genetic thing. *sigh of relief*
We also had family dentist day during all this! Tyler got his first dental visit, and we got our 6 mo cleaning and fluoride. Tyler’s report was that he had six teeth and two more were getting ready to erupt. Awesome. 8 teeth. Oh – and I’m supposed to figure out how to start flossing his teeth.
Yeah. Ok then.
The other day Tyler was clasping his head with his hands, by his ears… you know, Home Alone style… so for giggles I stuck my finger in his mouth, trying to figure out what was causing him to do that, and I think he’s starting to get his molars, at least on his left side. Or maybe I’m just feeling things. Who really knows. The dentist says Tyler is on point with his teeth, and that the back molars are the next to come in. That could explain the crazy rash/redness Tyler has had on his cheeks.
So since I started writing this post (April 10) to actually publishing it – I believe everyone is healthy (FINALLY) and I can honestly say I’m so NOT down with this everyone sick at once thing, and I hope that I NEVER EVER have to do it again.
I can dream, right?
